Daniel Ragnarsson asked:

What Is SEO?

Hey, There are too many people out there that are unaware of SEO, or Search Engine Optimization which SEO stands for.

SEO is basically ranking well in the search engines, there are loads of different sections in SEO but there’s basically two different groups, Onpage SEO, and Offpage SEO.

Onpage SEO:

The online SEO is basically your keyword density, your tags, and your h1/h2/h3 titles.

Keyword density is the percent of which your main keyword appears in the article, if your article is a thousand words and your keyword appears 15 times then that’s a keyword density of 1.5%. Your keyword density should be around 1-2%, don’t over do it because that just doesn’t work.

Keep in mind to have relevant tags, like if your writing an article about how awesome video marketing is, then you should think twice about having “Article Marketing” as one of your tags, it could work depending on which points you’re making in the video, but try to keep the tags to your niche.

Offpage SEO:

Offpage SEO is basically backlinks. Creating backlinks with your keyword is the anchor text is just about everything you need to do, you should also get keyword from sites related to your. If you’re writing about cars then you should get backlinks from cars and not from sites about writing books.

Try to get backlinks from sites with high PR, PageRank. The higher the page rank is, the more value the link will have to your site. A site with a page rank of 4 will be worth a few thousand backlinks from a site with a page rank of 0.

Links from .EDU and .GOV sites tend to have more link juice. Google trust these sites more than regular.com/.info/.org/.net. So if you got a link from one of these then good game, you’ll rank higher.

So in short, get page rank 10 sites from .GOV sites related to your niche;).

SEO is easily the most popular way to drive traffic to your website, I would say that the reason for this is that it’s free. You can of course outsource most of your work but if you’re new to SEO then I would recommend that you do the work yourself so you get to know how it works.

The better your website is, the higher ranking you’ll receive in the search engines. And if you rank high in the search engines, you’ll get sales.

Kris Beus asked:

The creation of a website is a magical feeling as everything comes together. You spend days if not weeks working on this website or blog putting it together piece by piece. Stressing every detail from the littlest type of format in the title to the content and where it will be placed. All of this is great for those who are wanting to start an online business, but after the creation of your presence and no one begins to come you suddenly realize that without any marketing whatsoever there is no chance building any traffic. The saddest things I have seen is webmasters and bloggers with great content, but they don’t understand basic internet marketing and SEO practices which lead them to a very low level of success. The idea I have always lived with when it comes to online business is when you create something you want to be seen then you have to create roads for your visitors travel. By roads I of course mean links on top websites and blogs related in your niche.

Once you have the idea of creating basic content and building links towards your main web presence. The next step will be learning everything you can about keywords and terms. These are basically the essence of search engines optimization and the more you understand the better off your website will place. One of the first checks you need to do when learning about any given keyword or term is going to Google and searching for “Google AdWords Keyword Tool”. This will bring up a tool which allows you to see the monthly search volume of any keyword typed in. Not only will it tell you the search volume of the term you typed in, but it will also show you the search volume of a hundred other terms closely related to the term you typed into Google. With this information you should easily be able to set up keywords and terms across your website. Usually what I will do is take some of the most searched for terms and optimize the index of my website for these then some of the lesser keyword terms being searched for I will optimize my sub pages or blog posts for.

That explains some of the basics when it comes to search engine optimization. The last SEO topic I want to cover and one that I really don’t think has been covered enough is time. In the first few months of your website you will be lucky if you can even get indexed into Google. Next you will need to spend a few months building links towards certain terms which if you build enough links you will show up in the top thousand. Between month 5 to 12 you will be working on ranking in the top three for some of these terms. It does take a long time because your are playing catch up with the websites and blogs already out there, but if your persistent and understand the time frame you will be fine.

Search engine optimization or SEO is a process that is used to improve your company’s standings in many popular search engines being used today. With more people noticing your company coming up when they are searching for a particular item or service they are more likely to visit your site and thereby creating more possible sales for you.

The higher you rank on search engines the better the chances of your company being noticed. With so many companies fight to get the attention of consumers, having a high SEO ranking has become more of a necessity in the technologically driven world we live in today. Many people would rather find a company online than have to search through phone books. It has just become the way that many people have become more familiar with finding information.

Search engines base their results on how popular and how much information is available about what companies have to offer and how much information is related to their website. Search engine results are also formulated by how many key words or phrases are produced by your company and what an individual is searching for. Therefore, the higher your visibility on search engine results the more business your company will generate.

There are many ways in which search engine optimization can help your business succeed and find its niche among many other similar companies on the web. Having a well detailed plan and a company behind you that can increase your SEO standings may very well be worth the investment. Having a company that understands the importance of gaining and maintain high SEO results can be very beneficial and is one of the most popular tools available to increase the amount of traffic your site sees on a regular basis.

The process of achieving high SEO rankings is something that many companies overlook on their journey to become the most popular site on the web. Don’t let your company become one of the many who have suffered due to lack of traffic and SEO results. Having a company behind you that is familiar with what is necessary to succeed in a technologically driven society is something that your company can’t be without. A SEO consultation will help you see where improvements can be made and what is needed to help your company succeed. If you want your company to succeed, having an SEO consultation is something that you may want to consider.

When you build your small business website, then tendency is to try to pack it full of as much information about your products and services as possible. If your company has several divisions or several areas of expertise, trying to put it all into one website might not be the wisest choice you could make. The truth is, websites that are a “jack of all trades” are less successful than sites that have the ability to narrow their field and target a smaller market.

For the business that offers a variety of services, it makes more sense to split your website into two or three sites that you can specialise. By doing so, it allows you to also lower the amount of competition you are up against while still reaching audiences that are interested in what you have to offer.

Another alternative would be to downplay many of your products and services and focus all of your online marketing efforts on one area of your business. This, of course is less desirable, but still more effective than trying to have a website that is everything to everybody. The idea being that although you are only heavily marketing a portion of your business, you are hopeful that once that targeted audience finds your site, they will discover your other services.

Let’s explore a case study of narrowing your field. For this scenario, I will use a gift shop as an example. If you are attempting to compete in the generic gift niche, you will have some pretty stiff competition. There will be millions and millions of other gift websites all vying for the same traffic and your hopes of cracking that market will be very difficult unless you plan to sink a load of money into advertising and promotion. If you type Gift Shop into the search engine you will see that there are 121 million competing pages for that term. (at the time of this writing)

Now let’s see what happens when you narrow the field a bit. If you were marketing for the term Graduation Gift Shop, that number drops to 2.9 million. That is still pretty stiff competition, but you can see from the example how you are decreasing the amount of other websites you are competing with and increasing your chances of generating business online.

Sinking a great deal of money into just one site when you have such a large amount of competition just does not make sense. You will never gain enough ground in the search engines for any search traffic to find your website. By investing a little more money into 2 or 3 websites, you drastically increase your chances of success online. Marketing your  three websites become less costly and you actually get traffic to your sites that will convert to cash in your pocket.

These directories must be search engine friendly (no more then 30 links per page) and well written.

I’d like to submit my site to these directories.

For future references- how do I search for niche directories with Google?
